GET YOUR KICKS ON ROUTE 66

Parks, Arizona is an unincorporated area located between Flagstaff and Williams. Many people have described it as a “village” over the years, but we really don’t think it’s that big!

Some legends say that a man named “Parks” named the area after himself, but we really think that it more accurately portrays the open prairies or “parks” that surround it.

What we do know is that the Parks General Store opened in 1907 and pre-dates Route 66 that runs right in front of it. When Route 66 was realigned and paved in the 1930’s, the highway was moved from back of the old store to where it is now. The owners had to move the gas pumps, doors…everything to their current locations. You can still see and walk on the original bed of

Route 66, just east of the store and Spring Valley Road. If you want a true picture of Route 66, stop and get a soda, breath in the crisp mountain air and let Parks take over.
