Top Things to Do in Flagstaff

by Gary Nelson

To say that Flagstaff is an outdoor lover's paradise is an understatement. With so many famous landmarks, monuments, and places to see, you'll never run out of exciting things to do in Flagstaff.  TripAdvisor.com has rated the top things to do in Flagstaff. Here's the top 3 from the list.

Walnut Canyon National Monument

This is the perfect place to see both geological wonders and ancient history.  You can walk back in time on The Island Trail as you view actual cliff dwellings of the ancient Sinagua. Or gaze at the amazing scenery from the Rim Trail.

Wupatki National Monument

If you enjoy Native American ruins, this is an amazing place to see them.  The main dwelling is a multistory Sinagua pueblo building, featuring over 100 rooms, a community room and ball court! You can also drive through the park to see other ruin sites.

Lowell Observatory

Flagstaff not only has natural wonders on the ground, but it's the perfect place to see the ones in the sky. It's one of the oldest observatories in the US and is considered a historic landmark. The original telescope is still being used today for education, along with several other telescopes.

Some people even claim it's the best Indian food in the US! You can order from the menu or try new dishes at the buffet. The menu may look like standard Indian fare on the surface, but it's certainly above standard when it comes to your table.

Satchmo's BBQ

Mouth-watering BBQ meets unique and tasty side dishes at Satchmo's.  Where else can you get jalapeño corn bread? You'll also find Po'Boy and BBQ "sammiches", jambalaya, catfish bites, "dirty rice" and more. Satchmo's certainly put their own unique spin on Southern BBQ that's sure to please any pallet.

There's Wupatki National Monument, Walnut Canyon National Monument, Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, and Barringer Crater to add to the list.  And you can also explore the 50 miles of trails in The Flagstaff Urban Trails System.  If you're into sports, don't worry, there's plenty of parks, disc golf courses, tennis courts, baseball fields, basketball courts, and more to keep you busy.

And let's not forget about the great shopping and dining waiting for you.  At the Flagstaff mall, you'll find all your favorite retailers.  Or for local vendors, you can go downtown to the Old Town Shops to find locally made items.
