September Home Maintenance Tips

by Gary Nelson

Summer is coming to an end in Flagstaff, and it's time to make sure your home is ready for fall and winter. If you perform just a few chores, you can make sure you're ready for the colder months and have fewer issues during the winter season. Here's a few tasks that are fairly easy, and will help you avoid major repair costs when you least expect them.

Check Walkways For Cracks

Before the walkways around your home get covered in the winter with debris, it's a good idea to fix any cracks that could create a tripping or slipping hazard. You can always fix small cracks with epoxy.  For serious cracks, you may need to call in a professional.

Clean and Repair Siding

Make sure the siding doesn't have mold or mildew, and check for rotten and warped areas.  You can even use a cell phone or drone to inspect higher areas instead of using a ladder. Inspect the joints for cracks.

Check Leaky Faucets

If you check leaky faucets and pipes now, you can avoid costly repairs if a pipe breaks during the winter.
