Bring in the New Year WIth These Fun Events

by Gary Nelson

The time has come already for us to say farewell to 2017 and bring in the new year! If you haven't planned your new year festivities, then here are a few events you can look forward to coming up this new year's eve.  From a boot drop, to great dining and silent meditation, there's a way to bring in 2018 for every taste.

The Great Pinecone Drop

Come to the Weatherford Hotel and watch the iconic pinecone drop at midnight. There will be two countdowns - one to coincide with the ball drop in NYC, and the other to mark the new year in Flagstaff. It's free for all ages!

New Year's Eve Boot Drop 2018

Join the street party at Whiskey Row as the 6-foot illuminated cowboy boot drops to bring in the new year. This even is family friendly, and best of all, free! No need for reservations or tickets, just show up at 8pm!

Barley Hound New Year's Eve

Party like its 1499! It's a nod to the middle ages with a feast fit for a king.  Everyone will sit at a community table with family style dining, with a menu inspired by centuries old traditions. Yes, it's meats on big platters and free flowing spirits, just like you would expect from a medieval feast!

New Year's Eve - Silent Meditation Retreat

Want a more serene way to enter 2018? The Meditation Learning Center offers a New Years Eve Weekend Silent Meditation Retreat, where you'll be able to focus on your own personal experience of meditation and mindfulness.

Have a safe and happy new year's eve!

by Gary Nelson

Are you looking for great ways to create holiday memories this year?  If so, you're in luck, because there are some great holiday events happening right now in the Flagstaff area. Check out these great ways to make this holiday season even more special.

The North Pole Experience

Experience the Christmas magic of Santa's workshop with you family in this 8500 sq foot workshop! You can tour the workshop, build toys with elves, visit the toy factory, and spend time with Santa. That's not all, as you can also enjoy Santa's Bakery, Elf University, Santa's Office, and "Area 47" Santa's secret sleigh hanger.  And yes, there's hot chocolate and cookies!

Polar Express

Take a ride on this legendary train as it journeys through the wilderness of Williams to the "North Pole" where Santa will be waiting with special present for all the children. And of course the journey itself is filled with wonder. There's also plenty of things to do at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel’s property.

Nothing says "Christmas" more than snow and a great time sledding and playing in the snow.  The Flagstaff Nordic Center offers cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowman building and pull-behind sledding and night play on Fridays. Click here for more details.

Important Questions Every Home Buyer Should Ask

by Gary Nelson

Buying a home can be such an exciting time, so it can be easy to get carried away with all the emotions.  So that means that now is the time to think carefully about your decisions.  Most likely you’ll find the ideal home.  And when that happens, people sometimes will let their emotions take over and not ask the important questions that need to be asked. Not asking the right questions can lead to a great deal of buyer remorse.

What are the most important questions to ask when buying a home? Here’s a few to consider.

Are There Any Major Issues?

Sometimes we want to overlook things that get in the way of something we love otherwise.  Yet those little things can add up to big problems down the road.  Finding out potential issues is a critical step that can’t be skimmed over.  Make sure you get an unbiased inspection of the home before making any decisions.

What Is the Home’s Market Value?

Finding out the market value of the home is the biggest step in determining how much of an offer to make.  Even though there’s no magic formula for making an offer, the market value is certainly the biggest factor in making a decision.

How Much Did the Seller Pay For the Home?

Did the current owner buy the home as a residence or to flip it?  Even if they made improvements to the house, it doesn’t mean that will increase the value. Knowing how much the previous owner paid will give insight into whether or not the home is overpriced.

How Long Has the Home Been on the Market?

The motivation level of a seller can sometimes be determined by how long the home has been listed. Sure, the agent can affect this factor.  But you can have your agent can look to see how many times the home has been relisted and the pricing history.
